The mug is named after its inventor, German chemist Karl Max. In 1908, Karl Max designed a double-walled glass thermos with a lid and handle, specifically for outdoor activities and drinking hot beverages. This mug not only kept hot drinks warm but also prevented burns, making it ideal for outdoor activities and travel. Due to its excellent design and function, it began to be called the "Max Mug" in honor of its inventor.

Over time, the Max Mug became popular worldwide, becoming a common drinking container in daily life. People began using it to hold hot drinks such as milk, coffee, and tea, and even to drink soup during work or breaks. The popularity of the Max Mug also spurred the diversification of mug designs, resulting in various shapes, colors, and materials to meet the needs of different groups.

However, the name "Max Mug" gradually simplified to "mug" during its spread, a change likely due to simplified language habits and pronunciation. Despite the name change, the function and design concept of the mug remain unchanged; it remains an indispensable beverage container in people's daily lives.
